Intergrative Medicine at NCVS

At North Country Veterinary, we want to make sure our patients have the best possible option for treatment of any condition that might trouble them.  We believe that the best treatments often involve a combination of modern procedures, medications and more traditional or alternative therapies.  Often no single treatment modality is sufficient for the best patient outcome. We strive to find the best possible combination of therapies to keep your animals feeling their best. Below are some of the therapies we offer in addition to our cutting-edge, medical and surgical techniques. Intergrative therapies are available for all species and for most conditions.  Please ask if your pet would benefit from any of these techniques.

Integrative Medicine

Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been practiced and refined for thousands of years.
Acupuncture may be defined as the insertion of needles into specific points on the body to produce a healing response. Each acupuncture point has specific actions when stimulated. This technique has been used in veterinary practice in China for thousands of years to treat many ailments. The Chinese also use acupuncture as preventative medicine. Acupuncture is used all around the world, either along or in conjunction with Western medicine, to treat a wide variety of conditions in every species of animal. Clinical research has been conducted showing positive results in the treatment of both animals and humans, and the use of acupuncture is increasing. Acupuncture will not cure every condition, but it can work very well when it is indicated.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic medicine uses manipulation techniques to treat a variety of disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Chronic injury and malalignment of the spine and joints can lead to many debilitating conditions. Animal athletes, especially equines, have sports-related injuries and benefit greatly from chiropractic medicine.

Chinese and Western Herbal Medicine

Most of the medications we use today are made from plant derivatives. Herbal medicine involves the study of how plants have been traditionally used to treat medical conditions and symptoms.  We have had excellent results using herbal medicine to complement other therapies at our clinic.

Homeopathic Medicine

Homeopathic medicine utilizes trace amounts of substances to create certain reactions within the body in order to produce a healing response. The substances trigger natural healing responses to start the process, letting the patient's own body heal itself.
